NSW General Boat Licence Requirements

To obtain your NSW General Boat Licence, you must:

  1. Be at least 12 years old: Note that there are licence restrictions for individuals under 16.
  2. Provide Proof of Identity: Acceptable identification documents are required.
  3. Pass an Eyesight Test: This may be conducted at a service centre when you apply.
  4. Complete Practical Boating Experience: This can be achieved by:
    • Completing a Boating Licence Practical Logbook with an experienced skipper, or
    • Completing an approved practical boat course with an Authorised Training Provider, like Allsail Sailing Club.
  5. Pass the Boating Knowledge Test: A multiple-choice test assessing your understanding of boating rules and safety.

Upon successful completion of these steps, you’ll be ready to apply for your NSW General Boat Licence.
